It’s been a while since I’ve listened to Tom MacDonald, and another bit since I’ve done a music review. I listened to his album Declassified, thought it was okay, liked a few songs, then kinda moved on and last I heard, he went on hiatus for a few months.
But apparently, he’s back with a new single called “The Government.”
Overall, I liked it. For a little bit, MacDonald did seem to be moving in more strictly conservative territory with songs like “The Devil is a Democrat,” but it definitely seems like he’s back to producing music that’s more politically in the middle. The entire song is about how he doesn’t trust the government because both sides are corrupt, politicians don’t keep their promises, and we can’t really trust anything from either side.
It’s bleak, but it’s an important message.
While politically, I would still consider myself conservative, I understand that no matter who is in office, we’re screwed. I still think the Democrats would do a much worse job of running the country than a lot of Republican politicians, but there are also quite a few Republicans that I am not a fan of (looking at you, Victor Marx.) It’s a mistake for anyone to think that just because someone says they’re one party, that everything will be sunshine and rainbows and those people can do no wrong. At the end of the day, people are people, and they will backstab you or do things that are stupid, no matter what party they identify with.
Until next time,
M.J.
