Blog: There Are no Secular Schools. Change My Mind.

A little while ago, I wrote a post about how atheism isn’t the absence of religion but is a sort of pantheistic religion in of itself. That post then got me thinking about our schools. Public schools as we know them are “secular.” Sure, they may make allowances for certain religious groups (unless they’re Christian – in which case you may have to jump through a ton of hoops to even be treated fairly), but overall, they teach from an atheistic worldview and demand that you subscribe to it if you want good grades. And if you happen to be a teacher who doesn’t teach from that worldview, then you may get fired or be totally discredited.

Now what does that sound like? Hmm…

Oh, that’s right! It’s a form of forced religious conversion to the religion of atheism.

Because of this, we should no longer continue with the lie that all schools are purely secular and free of religion. They absolutely follow a religion, and their entire point is to proselytize to their students – your children. Try as you might to teach your kid the way you want them to be taught, if you’re sending them to public school, the school will have more influence over what they believe than you ever will.

This also should be seen as a reason to just get rid of public schools entirely and let everything be privately owned. For one thing, if the schools aren’t government owned, there’s less incentive for them to stick with the government approved worldview. For another thing, it also allows parents more choice where they want to send their kids. If they want to send them somewhere that teaches from a Christian worldview, great! If they want to send them somewhere that teaches from an atheistic/secular worldview, fine. If they simply want to homeschool them because it might be cheaper in the long-run and they can choose their curriculum, more power to them!

Overall, no school can claim to be absent of religion. They all have a worldview that they filter things through and then proceed to teach their students. The sooner we realize that, the better it will be for society as we take steps to improve things.
