I wanted to do this post a bit ago but due to the fact that procrastination is strong with this one, I put it off. But let’s just pretend that this came about because the my mom’s roses in my backyard started opening up and look gorgeous.
To make these, first make the cupcakes. Duh. You can make them from scratch or you can use the boxes stuff, which is personally my go to since it’s quick.
While the cupcakes are baking and cooling, make your frosting. For the black roses, I just used frosting from the store and dyed it black, but for the red ones that are more detailed, you’ll want to make your buttercream from scratch because the frosting needs to be stiff. To do this, the recipe I use consists of mixing together 1/2 cup of butter, 2 tablespoons milk, 2 teaspoons of vanilla, and gradually adding about 4 cups of confectioners sugar. After that, add a dye of your choice.
Once the cup takes have completely cooled, put the frosting into a piping bag with a large petal tip. With the wider end resting on the cupcake, begin piping, turning the cupcake until you have a teardrop shape in the middle. Lift the bag and where the teardrop ends in a point, pipe your first petal, slightly angling the flatter part of the piping tip outwards. Once completed, repeat this step, slightly overlapping each petal until the cupcake is covered.
Until next time,
M.J.
Dang it. Now I’m hungry. 😡
