The Pendragon Cycle, the series that I have dedicated several blog posts to reviewing in preparation for the show to come out in fall of 2024. From the behind the scenes footage, some parts of it looked really good and after reading the books, I was expecting a good fantasy show and was waiting with bated breath for it to arrive.
Then fall came.
And The Pendragon Cycle never came with it.
No one knew what had happened to this show and speculation circulated online that it had been shelved for a variety of reasons including Brett Cooper’s leaving the Daily Wire. In fact, this was such a popular theory that Brett Cooper herself (who plays the role of Ganieda, Merlin’s wife) had to address it on her podcast.
However, a year after the show was supposed to air on Dailywire+, we now have an official teaser trailer for The Pendragon Cycle, announcing that it will (hopefully) air in January 2026. And as stated in today’s title, I have some overall thoughts on what the teaser has given us.
Starting with the pros, this show does look like it’s a high-quality production. The visuals look good. It seems like the performances will be good and overall, I’m hopeful that the show will actually be everything it’s been hyped up to be.
However, I do have a few concerns and nitpicks. For one thing, the armor. You guys know me; I love it when a T.V. show or movie gets armor right and makes it look realistic and practical. However, from what I’ve seen so far, the armor looks very plasticy. Maybe that’s just a personal concern of mine, but in a fantasy setting, if the armor or weapons don’t look good, it pulls me out of the world.
Speaking of the weapons, they kept that dang sword that I spent an entire blog post ranting about last year. And, to no one’s surprise, it still looks like a crappy wall hanger. Just like with the armor, it pulls me out of the world Jeremy Boring was trying to recreate.
Lastly, in the trailer there was a make-out scene between the characters Charis and Taliesin that implied a potential intimacy scene. While Dailywire is a conservative company and hopefully wouldn’t go that far with adapting any of the more intimate scenes in the book, I just hope they did so tactfully enough where the show can still be watched with family without any awkward moments. This might be me being nitpicky, and you can call me a prude if you want, but personally, I don’t want to be trying to watch a show and then suddenly be looking at a butt…or other things. I just want to sit down, relax, and watch a well-executed calvary charge into a horde of barbarians.
But those are just my thoughts on the trailer. Like I said earlier, I’m just hoping Dailywire actually releases it when they say they will. We’ve been waiting for how long now for it to come out? Let’s see the show already!
Until next time,
M.J.
