Blog: Comments Section Mania.

As most of you know, I’m a fan of free speech on this blog, so if you have something to say, even if I highly disagree with it, I will allow it in the comments section. Even if you are being a jerk towards me (looking at you Pro-Palestine people), I’ll allow it (especially since it says more about you than it does about me). However, that is not to say that I do not expect a certain level of civility from people.

This conversation comes up because a certain individual who calls himself Ark (who you may have seen commenting under several of my blogs in the past few months) decided to take his right to free speech in the comments and chuck it out the window when he started verbally abusing an anonymous commentor for simply asking a question pertaining to objective truth and what he believes about it. If you want to read the entire conversation, it’s linked here. This anonymous user was being very civil towards Ark, and all she did wrong was ask about the Achilles Heel of atheism/agnosticism, which is its lack of belief in objective truth, then point out where he was making a strawman of her argument and was using ad hominem (even worse for him was that he denied using ad hominem, even though his comments are riddled with it; see if you can spot the instances of ad hominem using the definitions given). It finally came to an end when he made a very lewd, rude, condescending, and (possibly) unintentionally sexist comment towards the anonymous user, leading me to block his account.

This type of behavior will not be tolerated here on The Tanuki Corner. If you want to make a fool of yourself by using ad hominem against me, alright. I will tolerate that to a point unless it becomes clear that you do not know how to walk away from the argument. Besides, when it comes to haters, I generally devote about .000001% of my emotional stamina to their garbage claims, so I don’t really give a crap. The reason for this is 1). I have better things to worry about and 2). I regret nothing. I’ve done nothing wrong except speak the truth and for that, I will never be coerced into apologizing. However, if you’re going to bully other people in the comments just because they had the spine to ask about or call out the weaknesses of your position, then that just shows that you have the emotional maturity of a toddler and will be treated as such when I put you in time out by blocking your account.

That is not acceptable behavior and just shows that you lack the intellectual and emotional capacity to argue well in a civilized manner. All it does is make you look like the idiot while strengthening the other person’s position when they ignore the fallacies. If you cannot engage in a civilized debate about your points, you will not be allowed to comment.

You’ve been warned.

Until next time,

M.J.

  1. I’m glad you made a blog about this, because that kind of comment is just useless. Like, saying it out loud is one thing, because you just spit it out and can’t backspace, but to write that out and press enter? That’s just another level of petty. Also, I like the new warning on the comment section.
