Art Gallery: Glowy Sunset

This was my first painting using guache and watercolor together. I stayed pretty simple with this one, only using techniques that I was familiar with such as stipling for the leaves and bushes in the background and the wet-on-wet technique for the sky. I was very happy with how opaque the black guache was in comparison to black watercolor paint, which often isn’t as dark as I would like it to be. However, I wasn’t super impressed with the white paint. Even though it did its job, it was still kind-of transparent in areas and was thick and chunky in other areas. Maybe that was a me problem, but it still isn’t my favorite part of the painting.

With that said, I would still rate it an 8.9/10 because despite the white paint being meh, the rest of the painting looks good.

Until next time,

M.J.
